Orchestrated
Kaos has been a sparkle in the eyes of Stéphane Labeaume for a few
years now. DJ , bass player, audio technician and record producer,
many trades he has learned that led him to his first eponymous album.
Starting
out as a bass player in different bands, he then chose the path
of live audio mixing and imposed himself rapidly as a first rate
technician. More than 800 live shows followed, from local to international
artists such as Slaves On Dope, Steve Hill, Anonymus and Reeves
Gabrels (guitarist for David Bowie).
A sought-after
DJ, he performed for more than four years in downtown Montréal's
hot spots where he developed his own style which can be summed up
in one word, Kaos. He is entrusted with the Gothic-Industrial night
in an alternative club, an eye-opening trip into the depths of the
underground music scene.
In
1996, he co-produces Visible Wind's "Narcissus goes to the Moon
". Four months of intense work results in a solid record which is
very well received by critics : the album is distributed in Japan,
Europe and in America.
The
following year marked another album production, this time with Oniro,
a project of Jean-François Linteau (sound mixer for Cirque du Soleil,
Alegria tour). His aborigine music is exclusively composed of traditional
instruments from the far corners of the world. As much as Visible
Wind was electric and electronic, this one is totally acoustic.
The
experience of working on a project like Oniro made him want to learn
more about music from other cultures. For a year or two he only
listened to aborigine music. Musical flavors from other countries
astounded him and opened up the already broad palette that make
up his musical influences.
Sums
of all these experiences have given birth to Orchestrated Kaos.
The evocative name translates in different musical influences that
converge into a musical style that pushes the envelope a little
further. " Kaos is totally unpredictable; with a name like this
I'm giving myself the latitude to be unpredictable musically. "
Michel Charette; an actor in such films as Les Boys and Hochelaga,
contributed musically to the project as well, he co-wrote Gemini
in a few intense work sessions last summer.
The
first single " Contact " is a clear indicator of the overall ambiance
of the record. An electronic album with an exotic and sensual flavor
that results in Orchestrated Kaos' first effort.
